LETTER TO MY LOVE

Dear library,
How are you? I hope this finds you well. It’s been a while since we last talked. What’s new in your life? I heard that you added new books to your shelves and brought in new pieces of furniture.

I know you are wondering why I decided to write to you out of the blue, considering how I left. I understand that you might not have forgiven me for leaving you without a goodbye. Truth is, at the moment of my departure I was not in my right state of mind. I was in love (or at least I thought I was), with your cousin Fun.

What can I say? Fun swept me off my feet and left me smitten beyond measure. She persuaded me to follow her by ridiculing my life, claiming that it was dead boring (she was right to some extent). Slowly but surely, I got sucked into Fun’s world of chasing vanity. I found her spontaneity to be very exciting, there was never a dull moment with her.

If I were not hanging out with Fun, then I was in the company of her two close friends, Laziness and Procrastination. Laziness was a cool guy, he bought me a new blanket that kept me in bed and away from class.

Procrastination, on the other hand ensured that I put off doing what brought me school until the eleventh hour. “Always save the best for last”, was his motto. The consequence of listening to him was that I did not hand in my assignments on time, if I handed them in at all.

I have already broken off my relationship with Fun and her comrades. I want nothing at all to do with Laziness and Procrastination, and as for Fun, we will remain good friends but never again will I make her my number one priority.

All I ask for now, is for you to give me another chance. I was a fool for taking you for granted and thinking that I could make it without you. I miss those nights that I used to come over to your place and you used to serve me a hot plate of knowledge, I know you do too.

So please, let’s give us another try.

Yours loving,

Varsity student.
